Tax structureOver the past decade, Italy has pursued a tight fiscal policy in order
to meet the requirements of the Economic and Monetary Unions and has benefited
from lower interest and inflation rates. The Italy-U.S. tax treaty contains provisions to avoid the double taxation of income for firms with operations in both countries. Royalties from patents and like properties are exempt from tax withholding under the treaty. They are freely remittable, subject to documentation requirements.
