Italy economic figures

Italy is in a strategic location dominating central Mediterranean as well as southern sea and air approaches to Western Europe.

Italy has a thriving and innovative industrial sector; being a world leader in industrial and product design, textiles and household appliances. Other main industries are: tourism, machinery, iron and steel, chemicals, food processing, motor vehicles, clothing, footwear, ceramics.

Italy has a diversified industrial economy with roughly the same total and per capita output as France and the UK (GDP - per capita in Italy: purchasing power parity - $27,700 - 2004 est.).

Labor force includes 24.27 milion people, which are mainly employed into the services sector (63%), followed by industry (32%) and agriculture (5%).
